The young, Caucasian gentleman stared off into the distance, a forlorn expression printed on his face, as he stood outside the hotel lobby. Tugging on his cigarette, the thoughtful character exhaled one last time, before dropping his cancer stick on the sidewalk. He carefully turned towards the front door of the facility and entered.
The hotel concierge smiled at the gentleman from behind his desk, before answering the telephone which had just started ringing beside him. The gentleman returned the favor with a halfhearted grin, before moving past the immaculate lobby towards the elevator. He carefully lumbered up the three stairs which led to the dining area and the ground floor rooms, which were arranged in a quadrangle around the bar and cafe tables. Yawning, the man pressed the button beside the elevator door and waited patiently.
The door opened, just as a black gentleman wearing a football jersey pushed his way out of the compartment. Edward eased himself into the elevator and then pushed the button for the fourth floor. He stood still, unblinking, as the elevator flew him to his destination. For a brief second, he looked at the emergency red button located on the elevator panel, but then laughed to himself. The childish urges which present themselves at the most inopportune moments.
Edward sighed deeply as the door opened, revealing the fourth floor to him. He looked to his right, where a plethora of house plants had been placed along the edge of the floor's balcony. Edward allowed himself a view of the sight below, where he noticed the bar and cafe spread out beneath him.
Turning back to the rooms before him, Edward walked up to Room 773. Removing his hotel card from his jacket pocket, he slid it beside the scanner located beneath the doorknob. As the device turned green, the gentleman allowed himself inside and then closed the door behind him.
